A drawing I did in 2008 from an old 40s movie magazine: it's Frank and Nancy Sinatra! Can't you see?Flora fifties imitation
Here are some character sketches I did a few months ago, after having looked at some Jim Flora drawings at length.
La Mano Peluda
This is a sketch from around 2003 for the animated sequence I directed, aka La Mano Peluda, from the animated film Manga Latina:Killer on the Loose.
Boris Karloff & Vincent Price in THE RAVEN
Here's a sketch done after watching Roger Corman's 1963 version of The Raven, which is one of my favorite of his Poe movies. I always preferred Vincent Price's hamminess over Boris Karloff's lispy ways.
Blind Willie McTell
Ah Blind Willie! Definitely one of my favorite bluesmen. When my friend Young Sebastian turned me on to this guy, I loved the voice, guitar playing and themes of this dude from the 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond . Sketch from around 2004, while killing time before going out drinking. Which was appropriate.
The Tooth Guy
In 2004, I remember mindlessly sketching this image while waiting for a friend to show up. One year later I colored it.
Ortholock Evil Head
Sketch from Sept 2009. Since the word "ortholock" appears on the page, I guess that means that I drew this at the old workplace.
Hanger's Eye
This is the first oil painting I ever did, and probably the first painting ever! This could be from 2003 or 04.
Bela Lugosi aka Dracula
I drew this, as well as other horror movie icons, for Felino Bytes in 2006 which was exposed at the Centre Culturel Aberdeen in Moncton NB for a week in Nov 2006. Obviously nobody bought it, so I gave the whole collection to my buddy Bruce in Boston, to include in his back yard Horror Shack.
Marijuana Girl
This is a sketch of the chick who experiences "drug-crazed abandon" on the poster of Reefer Madness (1936). I did this one probably while talking to Marlo at the MGL studio in 2004. I had it on my bulletin board for years.
The Skull
I'm not sure if this is acrylic or oil, I forget, because it's from 2005. I painted this one night to practice. It was exposed at a tapas bar on St-Denis for a week or so in 2005.
Elvis
This was drawn during Astral days (2000)... probably while waiting for a crappy cartoon scene to render and listening to Aldi talk my ear off about his 78rpm record collection.
John Lee Williamson
"Lord have mercy"!Those were the last words of bluesman Sonny Boy Williamson, who kicked the bucket in 1948 after a mugging in his home town Chicago. On his way home from a show no less! This is a late night 2005 drawing
