Digital Trace: F.W. Murnau (1888 - 1931)

Sometimes, for fun, I'll trace some kind of JPEG image using the tablet because, well, it's so easy to. So, this is one of those cases. Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau made classic German films like Nosferatu (1922) and Sunrise (1927) among others. He died in a car crash and Greta Garbo commissioned a death mask of him.

Floating Abe Lincoln... In a Desert

The famous Floating Abe Lincoln that I used to do in Storyboard Pro demos, across the entire planet earth!

18th Century Weirdo

The 18th Century Weirdo, floating in the air... from mid-2000s.

HillBilly BBQ: Eyes-a-Cookin'

This character never made it into the Felino Bytes comic from 2004, he sure should have... I mean, look at this guy! He's cooking his face!!

unknown person (I forget)

I made this digital drawing about a year or two ago, of course using a Wacom tablet, while passing the time waiting for some pathetic event at the office. I don't remember what public figure this was, but I think he was black.

Faultline: "Salt"

Hmmm, I guess when I was sketching this sometime in 2006, I was listening to that electronica type band Faultline' s track "Salt" off of the Closer Colder CD. This is a character from The Gravestones idea I had and most probably got the Faultline album off of a dude working at the animation studio at that time. Yeah that's it!

Wurdalak!

Last night I watched La Notte dei Diavoli (1972) directed by Giorgio Ferroni. It had a great, typically Italian Euro-horror soundtrack by Giorgio Gaslini and had many aspects later found in the Evil Dead about 10 years later. It was everything I like about these type of films: creepy, slow moving, gothic and gory. I'm glad I found it. However, Ferroni's earlier Il Mulino Delle Donne Di Pietra (1960) had even more such elements and seems scarier to watch from my old VHS copy.

John Dillinger (1903-1934) ?

We saw The Johnny Depp movie Public Enemies (2009) and thought it was OK. Interesting character indeed. One book I have says he may not have died outside the Biograph Theater, that it was a lookalike on the ground. Also, I now understand why the metal band named themselves The Dillinger Escape Plan, since their music is as intricate as his crazy escapes!

Elvis Heartbreak

This old drawing is up because it has a heart on it, but I want to say happy birthday to my good friend Colin, who probably doesn't know this blog even exists!

Peggy Lee (1920 - 2002)

American Jazz singer and songwriter... but I don't listen to her much because I don't have any of her records.

Head Fight

A recurring theme here at Images From the Deep.

Head Cutter Offer (2000)

Here's a quick cartoon I did when experimenting with Flash 10 years ago (!)

Guitarist

Drew this one about a month ago while waiting for supper to be ready.

The Gravedigger

I drew a gravedigger character (from The Gravestones) on a brown paper bag.

Bad Breath Head

Old drawing from Astral days.

Green head

Drew this to show how to do lipsync with Toon Boom software, at a Montreal animation studio about a year and a half ago.

Spider Baby

This is Carol Ohmart (as Emily Howe) in this very good 1968 horror-comedy, with supergreat theme song sung by Lon Chaney Jr.

Dave Clark

Although I'm a big fan of the British Invasion musically, I don't really care so much for the Dave Clark Five... I mean their ok, but... I must have chosen to draw him because it was available in a rock history book, when I was looking for a subject.

Mystery Baby

Ah the youth of today!

Questionmarks Guy

Cartoon character wearing a t-shirt of actual rock band The Questionmarks.

French Guy

This french guy was drawn in StoryboardPro, with a texture pen. The only way to get a quality export of a bitmap using a textured pen is to do a Printscreen from your computer! Can you believe it?

The Halfers

One of the many amputated characters I made for "The Halfers".
